Elon Musk Just Shared Footage Of A Hyperloop Accelerating To 200MPH, And Wow

When Elon Musk initially debuted his plans for the Hyperloop – a revolutionary tunnel system that can travel at speeds up to 1,200 km/h or 746 mph – excitement was generated across the engineering community leading to a series of hyperloop prototypes.

Yesterday, Musk released some new ammunition for the community. In an Instagram post, you can see a test pod accelerating to 324 km/h (201 mph) in just a few seconds. The footage shows the winning design from the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod competition:

This design is known as the WARR Hyperloop. It was created by a team of 30 students from The Technical University of Munich in Germany and debuted at the competition at SpaceX’s headquarters in Hawthorne, California.

WARR is built on a 50 kW electric motor with a weight of only 80kg or 176 pounds – it’s made entirely from carbon fibre. WARR beat out other competitors to win the fastest speed of the day.

Below you can find footage of the full run:

Musk points out that the blinding acceleration and strobe-like effects seen in these tests will not be present in the passenger versions of the hyperloop. In this case the test tube was only 1.2 km (0.75 miles) long – so the engineers were forced to create rapid acceleration. He further clarified on Twitter:
